Climb Cotopaxi - 2010!

Ecuador, South America

Climb Cotopaxi was a charity mountain climbing event that took place on August 28, 2010 in Ecuador, South America.  Father and Son team, Roddy and Ethan Moscoso, went to Ecuador in mid-August to prepare for the ascent.  Cotopaxi is considered the largest active volcano in the world at a height of 19,347 feet!  Roddy and Ethan nearly made the summit.  Check on the “Blog” link above for details and pictures.

As part of the climb, Roddy and Ethan raised money for two U.S. based charities that support environmental and educational efforts in Ecuador.  Although the climb is over, you can still support these charities via the “Make a Donation” link above.  Donations are tax deductible and secured through First Giving, Inc.

More About Cotopaxi and Ecuador

Nestled in the heart of the Andes, Cotopaxi is located two hours from the Capital City of Quito and provides fantastic views of the surrounding snow-capped mountains and countryside.  Translated from the indigenous language of Quechua, Cotopaxi means “the Neck of the Moon.”  It is a national symbol of Ecuador and considered a premier climb for experienced climbers as well those new to mountain climbing.  Check out more information on Cotopaxi at Wikipedia.

Check out this remarkable time lapse video below of Cotopaxi at night taken in May 2010.  At about 1:15 seconds into the video, you can see the lights from the climbers setting out from the snow line for the summit.  That was us!
